Mattresses are the foundation for getting a good night’s sleep. Therefore, mattresses are an important part of a bedroom. There are many types, styles, and materials made by different manufacturers, all differing greatly in price.
Types of Mattresses
As there are so many types of mattresses, it is important to know the differences between the types as well as what each type has to offer. In today’s market, a common type of mattress is an innerspring mattress which consists of wire coils as the mattress core with padding on top of the coils for padding. It is commonly thought that these mattresses offer the best support as they are more firm than other types of mattresses. Coil mattresses contain springs that are individually wrapped with fabric. These mattresses have the benefit of one person sleeping feeling another person moving around less than other mattresses. Memory foam is another type of mattress. Just as the name implies, when pressure is applied to this mattress, it conforms to the shape however after the pressure is removed, the mattress returns to its original shape. Memory foam mattresses that are more firm typically last longer than softer mattresses. Many people find that these mattresses are warmer than other types of mattresses. To go along with mattresses are foundations. There are 3 main types of foundations: a box-spring foundation that offers softer support, wood foundation to increase firmness and a grid foundation made of both steel and wood.
Current Trends in Mattresses
One of the current trends in the mattress market is pillow-top mattresses. Pillow-top mattresses are designed with additional top layers of cushioning so that there is an extra soft feel to the top but the mattress maintains its firm support. Many mattresses produced are pillow-top. Memory foam mattresses are also very popular, especially for those who have back issues. There are certain brands of memory foam mattresses that are more accepted than others.
Pricing of Mattresses
As mattresses can be an important but also fairly costly purchase it is important to test the mattress prior to purchasing. Memory foam mattresses are typically more expensive than other mattresses and certain brands of memory foam mattresses are even more expensive. Pillow-top mattresses can be more reasonably priced however some of the posture-pedic ones will be more expensive than those that are just a plain pillow-top mattress. Purchasing a mattress is a significant investment, not just financially but also to maintain good health. Therefore, care should be taken when purchasing a new mattress.
