Growing up memories of the dining room may include the room being a separate, formal space that held expensive pieces of furniture and was used only for special occasions. While these rooms can still be found in homes, most of them are much more informal spaces. They still typically consist of the dining room table and chairs as well as a cabinet but that is where the commonalities end.

With the choices in flooring, lighting and accessories, dining rooms today are much different than they were traditionally. Generally, the dining room table is still the focus of the room but the personality of the room can be created with the chairs and accessories. Add in the flooring, lighting, dishes and serving ware and one dining room varies significantly from another. Personal style influences can dramatically change the look of the room whether it is a dining room that is modern, eclectic, elegant, formal or traditional.
